Presidents Message

Spring is just around the corner!

Now that we are in full swing with 2017, it is time to start thinking about the amazing programming your Board of Directors has put in place for you this year.  Please consider marking your calendars for our WMBA Capital Day on March 7th.  Our goal is to have at least 65 WMBA members participate in this important but FREE event.  This is your opportunity to make a difference for your industry as you speak with the Legislators that affect our daily work.  Don’t let yourself be intimidated by this.  Our Registered Lobbyist George Klaetsch will walk us through talking points and etiquette so you will feel comfortable during these meetings.  As someone who participated in this event last time, I encourage you make the time to allow your voice to be heard.  You will be pleased you did.  Registration deadline is Feb 24.  Click here to Register for free now.

One month after Capital Day is the capstone event of the WMBA year – the 43rd Annual Real Estate Finance Conference.  On April 6th and 7th you will participate in this event with about 350 of your industry peers to be educated, entertained, enlightened and energized.  We are trying out a new venue this year in the smoke free second floor exhibit space of Potawatomi Hotel.  Hence our theme of “Don’t Gamble on the Future”.  Check out the conference logo and stay tuned to more information on our Instagram Page, our Twitter Feed, our Facebook Page,  our LinkedIn Page and of course our WMBA webpage.

If all of these great WMBA activities get you exciting and wanting more, please consider a committee or leadership role in your local chapter or for the State.  The Milwaukee Chapter would love to discuss that further with you at their monthly social on Feb 15 at the Ground Round.  The Madison chapter has a couple of upcoming events and would love your input when you attend and the Northeast chapter is planning another Roundtable discussion forum in the near future.   Beyond the chapters, the WMBA strongly supports Make a Difference Wisconsin in their quest to provide financial literacy programs and resources that empower teens to make sound financial decisions and welcomes you to get involved in their great mission.  Contact me for opportunities to get involved.
I look forward to seeing you at the many upcoming events and welcome the opportunity for you to contact me with ideas on ways to make our great organization even greater!

Legislative Update - George Klaetsch

Wisconsin State Legislative Leaders Announce Committee Structure

Earlier this month, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald appointed members to their (38) and (18) standing committees respectively.  The primary (not exclusive) focus of the WMBA is on the Financial Institutions Committees in each legislative house.

This month, we will highlight the members of the Senate Revenue Financial Institutions and Rural Issues Committee in which the WMBA will be working with during the 2017-18 legislative session.

Top Five Reasons To Participate in 2nd WMBA Capitol Day in Madison

5.  FREE!  No registration fee! This is a complimentary grassroots event that helps out you, your employer and your profession!

4.  WMBA Board Members – Your board meeting is scheduled in Madison at 3PM.  Might as well get there early and advocate for your industry.

3. It’s FUN – Spending a Day with your colleagues and peers in the Wisconsin’s State Capitol.

2.  Government may be the single biggest threat to ensuring you are able to adequately serve your customers pursuing the American dream of home ownership.

1.  This is your profession your industry and the WMBA is YOUR trade association!  If you are not advocating for the WMBA and its issues in front of your legislators, you can be assured your political opponents are.

“If we do not hang together, we shall surely hang separately.”
